Christine M. "Tina" Larson, M.D.

Connecting with her patients.

As a med school grad from Hershey, Pennsylvania (known as "The Sweetest Place on Earth"), it's no surprise that Dr. Tina Larson has such a sweet disposition and upbeat attitude towards her work.

"At OBGYN West, I love how we get to take care of our own patients," she explains. "I get to see them all the way through their pregnancies and their deliveries. There's no better place to develop a strong connection with the women you care for."

Of course, sometimes that care calls for long days and late-night hours, but that doesn't seem to faze the dedicated doctor. "I enjoy what I do," Dr. Larson smiles. "Being a mom of two boys has helped me to really appreciate being with my patients throughout their whole process. The long hours and the late nights are just part of the journey and I wouldn't miss a minute of it."

"And I love the deliveries," she says with a smile. "There's really nothing like handing a couple their beautiful new baby. It's indescribable really." And, she admits, challenging at times...especially with high-risk pregnancies. "When a woman's expecting more than twins, or she's suffering from diabetes or hypertension, there are added risks," she concedes. "But like most Minnesotans, our patients take pretty good care of themselves."

So what finally lured this talented doctor from her home state and a busy practice in Lancaster County, PA? "I did my residency here in the Twin Cities and became good friends with Wes (her colleague, Dr. Grootwassink). One day he mailed me an OGBYN West t-shirt and wrote, ‘If you can't play for the team, at least you can wear the team colors.' I gave it some long thought and just couldn't resist the pull of Minnesota any longer."

Now, she and her husband, Brad (a childhood friend of Dr. Grootwassink's) and their two sons are back in the Midwest and loving it. "OBGYN West is an excellent place to be," she concludes. "Not only am I working with great doctors, but they're just great friends."
It may be a long way from the chocolaty goodness of Hershey, but for Dr. Tina Larson, the Twin Cities is now "home sweet home."
