Shannon E. Klingman, M.D.

Small town girl makes good doctor.

Meet Shannon Klingman and it's hard not to get swept up by her contagious, positive energy. Her enthusiasm seems boundless. Whether she's talking about her family, her love of cooking or helping her patients, Dr. Klingman approaches everything she does with the same great passion and dedication.

Even as a child, she was involved in all her small midwestern town had to offer. "I sang in the high school choir, I was in dance line and I was in every musical," she says. When reminded she was also Second Runner Up in her state's Junior Miss Pageant, she laughs and says, "Yeah, I was big time in Rice Lake, Wisconsin."

Shannon attributes her drive and determination to growing up in a house of restauranteurs. "We all had to pitch in," she explains. "When I was nine, I was bussing tables for quarters to play Pac Man. Then I was waiting tables for tips. It was a family thing. It's what we did."

The restaurant, she says, is where she developed her love of cooking. But she gives her mom credit for her decision to become an OBGYN. "Mom was a labor and delivery nurse and she was always coming home with stories. As a kid, I didn't know if I wanted to be a doctor, but I knew I wanted to help people."

And help people, she does. After graduating fifteenth in her medical class, Dr. Klingman dove into her work with the same zeal she approaches everything in life. Naturally, she loves her patients who are moms-to-be, but Shannon admits she's compelled by the more challenging cases as well: abnormal uterine bleeding, perimenopausal women and abnormal pap smears. "I just love when women come in with problems I can fix."

Patients appreciate her dedication. One recently wrote, "Dear Dr. Klingman, Thank you for loving your job. Your confidence and joy always put me at ease. Even my husband commented, ‘you can tell that she truly enjoys what she does'. You are a fantastic person."

Despite all her accolades and accomplishments, Dr. Klingman still sees her greatest role as that of homemaker. "I pride myself in being a good wife and mom," she beams. "This is what's really important to me." She readily admits that it's demanding being both a good mom and a good doctor, but if anyone has the energy to do it, it's Dr. Shannon Klingman.
