The doctor still known as "Prince"
If Dr. Princ were to go on Wheel of Fortune, the first thing she might do is buy a vowel. "My last name is pronounced 'prince'," she explains. "But it's Croatian, courtesy of my husband, Igor, so without that 'e' at the end, it's a challenge for people."
Another challenge for some is Lora's youthful appearance. "When people ask, Are you old enough to be a doctor? I say, I assure you I am. But thanks for the compliment." Dr. Princ says she stays young tending to her two children, staying out of the sun, and being "a gym rat". "I like to kick box, play tennis and lift weights." She also logs a few miles at the malls, shopping for her guilty pleasure, shoes.
Actually, that youthful spirit often works in her favor, especially with her younger patients. "I strive to make all my patients, but especially young women, know they can always come to me with their concerns," Dr. Princ explains. "And they do, because they know I understand where they're coming from."
This empathy was heightened by her days growing up on a farm in Streeter, North Dakota. "Being raised in a rural area made me particularly aware of the sometimes limited resources available to women in need, " says Dr. Princ. "I understand how women can feel isolated and unsure. I want to be that safe place to turn."
Dr. Princ inspires that same sense of confidence in her colleagues, as she has become the "go-to person" in the office for any statistics, expert statements and the latest recommendations. "That's one advantage of being the most recent graduate of residency," she admits. "I'm freshly versed in the most current thinking in OBGYN, including being well trained in all the latest minor procedures we can now do to greatly improve a woman's life."
Dr. Princ chose OBGYN West because "all the doctors were "down to earth", they related well with their patients and it was the clinic of choice for a lot of the nurses she knew. For Lora, one of the greatest moments of being a doctor is when "I can talk with a patient about something that's important to her health and I can see that look of total understanding. That's very satisfying."
