Carol Olson, Nurse Practitioner

A healthy choice for your regular visits.

If you’re looking for someone who can truly vouch for the quality of care you’ll receive at OBGYN West, look no further than Carol Olson.  Over thirty years ago, Carol’s first son was delivered by an OBGYN West doctor.  Almost two decades later, Carol decided it was time she join the team at OBGYN West.  That was over 15 years ago and Carol continues to enjoy providing great care for her patients.

“I love working with the patients and seeing them through the many phases of their lives,” she explains.  “It’s fun to see them as young women in high school and watch them go off to college and get married and start a family.  I like being with them through the good times as well as the tough times.”

Originally from the small farming community of Cascade, IA, Carol left her rural roots for Iowa’s Quad Cities. Once there, she attended the St. Anthony School of Nursing in Rock Island, Illinois.  After a year of practice in Dubuque, she and five close nurse friends moved to the Twin Cities. After a stint at Methodist Hospital, Carol spent 20 years at an endocrinology clinic, working as a diabetes educator and providing direct care to patients as an adult nurse practitioner.

“I found myself doing a lot of GYN care,” says Carol, so to further strengthen her skills, she pursued an independent study program, with OBGYN West’s Dr. Terri Johnson as her mentor.

Carol says she always knew she would either be a teacher or a nurse. It’s no surprise then that today, she truly is both. “I’m very interested in preventative medicine and healthy lifestyle,” she explains. “I like helping people learn more about how their bodies work, so they can control their destiny in certain respects.”

When she is not helping her patients live healthier lives, Carol likes traveling with her husband, reading, going to movies and plays and exercising.  She also enjoys crocheting and beading as well as spending time with her three sons and her beautiful new granddaughter, Daeton.
