The Sixth Month
By now, your baby looks like a miniature of himself. His face has distinctive features. Your baby is gaining about half a pound a week by now, fed by the umbilical cord, which may become an inch in diameter by birth. His heart is beating 120 to 160 beats per minute and pumping the equivalent of 25 quarts of blood through his body every day. The moving and kicking is growing stronger, and your baby may react to loud noises.
You and your partner should be thinking about your baby's arrival, and making choices about labor, delivery and infant care. This is also a good time to take a childbirth education classes. These classes can be invaluable in preparing you for what lies ahead. And hey-what are you going to name this baby?
