The Second Month

This may be the most important month of your baby's growth. It transforms from a ball of dividing cells into an embryo about one-tenth of an inch long. The cells form three layers, and begin to specialize in certain tasks, as they become parts of the skin, hair, muscles and organs, and nervous system.

Even if you're a morning person, morning may no longer be your favorite time of day. Morning sickness affects about three out of four women during this time. Try eating a few soda crackers before breakfast for a little relief.

Eat well, but try to divide your meals up into four or five small ones, rather than three large meals. You should add about 300 calories a day to your regular balanced diet.
